Monday, June 27th
After realising i’d not seen Fargo at all I decide, after some deliberation, to take an extra day. I’d left the house intending to go but after checking out a bike shop, having coffee, lunch, forgetting my keys, going back to collect them, then losing any willpower to cover a significant distance I decide to stay one more night.
I check out the woodchipper. A now famous prop from the penultimate scene in Fargo. You can find it in the Fargo / Moorhead visitor centre, a few miles out of town. There’s some photographs and memorabilia, a couple of scripts too.
Out on the edge of town are all the large chain stores and a strange building with an unknown purpose, perhaps Scientology.
I get back in time to have a quick beer in the garden with Lyle and a friend of his fixing motorcycles then head out again to see The Lobster playing at Fargo Theatre. A beautifully restored Art Deco building. It feels good to not to do anything at all for a couple of hours and actually relax.
I check out one bar in town, the Bismarck Tavern, before walking back home. It’s a divey kind of place, a jukebox and cheap beer. Fairly quiet since it’s a Monday. A guy sits next to me and does an awful English accent, which I can forgive him for, less so his opinions on Donald Trump and guns.
I walk back to the house at around 10 or 11 after a couple of drinks.
Tomorrow i’ll need to start cycling again. 80 miles to cover as I enter the void of North Dakota.
