Week Notes #36

– One of those weeks experienced on pandemic time. Fast, slow, incredibly mundane yet somehow distinctive in it’s own ordinary way.

– I bought a rug.

– Planned (or attempted to plan) for my week off.

– The original idea was to bikepack the South Downs Way. I’d bought a map, new mud-compliant tyres, a new raincoat. But I’ve kept a close eye on the weather all week and it isn’t look good.

– Spent a good chunk of Sunday weighing up the options. I found a beautiful Airbnb in Madeira. Then the flight I was looking at on Google Flights just vanished into thin air. Someone at EasyJet had a change of heart I suppose.

– I also discovered Bikepacking Scotland which has a bunch of interesting routes. Weather isn’t much better up there but perhaps more tolerable as I would expect it to be that way.

– As of late Sunday evening (now early Monday morning) the plan might be to drive up to Scotland with Chris along the North Coast.

– Failing that, train + bike to Glasgow? Who knows. Nothing this year has felt particularly straightforward and having a normal holiday is apparently no exception.

– I bought a piano a couple of weeks ago. London is full of people trying to get rid of pianos. The only expensive bit is moving it. But it arrived Saturday and I guess I own a piano now. If I don’t play it i’ll pass it on.

– But for now it’s filled up the corner of that room nicely. If nothing else it’s a beautiful iPad and plant stand.

– I watched Eternal Sunshine.. on Saturday and learned a few notes from the theme, one hand at a time.

– Perhaps i’ll just spend my week continuing with that instead.
