US09: Buffalo, rest day

Wednesday May 25th

I decide to spend an extra night in Buffalo. It’s the first day I don’t touch my bike in as long as I can remember. Instead I walk to a coffee shop late in the morning and spend a few hours working on this blog, sorting photos, and other ‘admin’ that i’ve put off for a week or so.

I don’t see much of Buffalo other than the neighbourhoods in the North, but I felt I got a good look during the bike ride yesterday and a day of doing nothing very physical was a good idea. I walk slowly and feel the aches in my legs fading slightly.

I walk back at around 5 or 6 via CVS and a taco chain called Mighty Taco. In the evening Joe and Emily have friends over and cook tacos, so I end up having tacos twice in a day, but theirs are a lot better, and a day with two taco sittings is not a bad thing.

We eat outside in their back garden. Rani shares an incredible story about the four day ordeal he went through just to leave Gaza and go on this trip. It makes me feel both very ignorant, and also very fortunate.

The forecast looks bad for the next week – rain and scattered thunderstorms. I brace myself for the worst as I climb the stairs to bed before continuing my journey West, to Erie, Pennsylvania, tomorrow morning.
