Week Notes #4

one

I’m realising it might be difficult for me to find a good and/or relevant image for these posts each week, so i’m going to use some archive images to fill in the blanks. I took this photo on Cannon Beach, in Oregon, toward the end of bike trip from Vancouver to Portland in May, 2018. Reaching the coast here – it’s one of the most beautiful spots in Oregon – was a memorable evening.

two

I got back from Europe on Friday, feeling a little exhausted after packing a lot into a week, but happy to have made the most of the trip. Highlights included the thermal baths in Budapest, Wortuba Church, Mochi Ramen Bar, Vienna and just the fact you can cross a border on a train and be in another country in an hour.

I took photos and put them here but I can’t say that I love any of them. Photography is something i’ve fallen out of touch with a little, despite still lugging a camera with me all over the place. In fact i’m pretty sure i’m getting worse at it.

I may pick up one of my film cameras again to try and shake things up. I miss the imperfect – perfectness of getting photos like the one above.

three

I saw the Nan Goldin exhibtion at Marian Goodman gallery, in Soho, on Saturday. It was the last day, and busy, but worth the trip. The slideshow and upstairs room with the large landscapes were the most memorable pieces for me.

four

Just watched Noah Kalina’s 20-year edition of Everyday. Tonight i’m watching Uncut Gems at the Barbican.

five

I’ve signed for a short course in writing narrative non-fiction at City University, starting next week. I’m hoping it will give me a bit of a confidence boost in my own writing, like my photography, I also feel that’s something I used to be better at. Not too sure what to expect from the course but it feels good to make a measured effort towards getting better at a thing.

six

Technically i’ve gone back to work today, but may not have much to work on until my new project gets rolling next week. I’m trying to enjoy the downtime but i’m feeling a mixture of laziness and anxiousness right now

seven

Over the weekend I dug out my Hario cold brew coffee pot from the back of the cupboard. i’m on my second or third cup today. This probably isn’t helping with the anxiety mentioned in 7.

eight

My dad turns 75 next week. It feels good to have started planning the trip to Japan we’ve been talking about on and off for the last couple of years. We should make it out there in October.
