Week Notes #12

one

I’ve been looking after Humphrey (pictured), a 10 year old pug, for the last four days.  He sleeps for around 17 hours a day, has incredibly bad breath, but is a gentle soul and his presence will be missed when I hand him back to his owner this afternoon.

two

Today I tried a float tank for the first time. Something i’d always been intrigued by ever since this Simpsons episode. Much easier to stay still than I thought it would be, much harder to have a still mind.

three

New season of Ugly Delicious is good but much too short (4 episodes).

four

Hung out with Tom yesterday, and Miriam and Vicky today, over the course of the weekend I managed to hit both Popham’s locations and i’m now convinced theirs are the finest pastries in London.

five

Missed a week of writing class for the first time and generally feeling a bit rubbish for not making the time to write more during the course. I’ve found it almost impossible to construct a paragraph i’ve been happy with. I think it’s a learning for the next time I try and do something big and new outside of work hours and to really make sure i’m carving out the time for it.

six

There’s three weeks left on my current project at work and we need to design and document an entire design system in that time. This is fine.

seven

The whole week it’s been sunny then raining then sunny. Part Spring, part end of the world. There’s too much news to read about coronavirus. People are buying all the toilet roll. Everything feels a bit weird and upside down and uncertain..

eight

..but, there was an incredible fortifying Reply All episode this week – #158 The Case of the Missing Hit–  and for the duration of that, and a little bit afterwards, everything felt ok again. I’ve since listened to it three more times.

nine

I’ve also had this Underworld track, Dune, on constant repeat. It’s a very calming way to spend 10 minutes and for some reason makes me nostalgic for a London summer I never had, or something like that.
