Week Notes #32

— I’ve just finished watching House of Hummingbird (2018) a beautiful and very moving film but one which is just a bit too sad for a rainy Sunday early evening in London. Or maybe it’s just right for it.

— It was kind of like Eighth Grade except about 83% sadder. I loved almost every frame and the gentle electronic soundtrack (another similarity to Eighth Grade) was perfect. These were some of my favourite stills.

— Also watched Best In Show this weekend. Might watch A Mighty Wind tonight as a pick me up after ..Hummingbird.

— I cycled to Richmond Park today then discovered it was closed to cyclists / cars. I sat inside for about half an hour and called my dad and watched a golden retriever swim after sticks in a river.

— I hit my goal of cycling 100+ miles a week. This is much easier now I have the Peloton bike. I’ve ridden it every day for two weeks straight now. It feels weird to say but it feels good to sweat again.

— I’ve been to Columbia Road flower market two Sundays in a row. Since I still seem to wake up at 6am most days it’s easy to get there for around 8 before it gets too busy. Today I picked up a rubber plant, a snake plant, something i’m not sure of the name of with pretty yellow leaves, and a few small succulents to pad out the corners of the windows in the living room.

— The cactus / foam seat area in the living room is my new favourite part of the flat and a good to work from when I don’t need a big screen and want to focus on things like writing instead (like this blog).

— Met Tom and Fiona’s dog in Victoria Park on Tuesday morning. Had drinks with Chris there later in the evening. Starting to have that classic mid-summer realisation that the long days and warm nights are not going to be there forever so i’m trying to make the most of it and go and lay on the grass at least once a day.

— Finished Normal People and it wasn’t quite as traumatic as i’d been bracing for. Kind of a happy-sad ending ultimately. It was a painfully nostalgic show but brilliant.

— This week I will be continuing to work on updating Loom’s product with their new branding. This is very very exciting but a little stressful too, but the good kind.
